Humanitarian Mandates to be Reviewed on 17 March

New York, 12 March 2008 – Informal consultations of the Working Group on Mandate Review, initially scheduled for today, were postponed. The meeting is now set to take place on Monday, 17 March at 10 am.

The focus will be on the cluster of mandates related to humanitarian assistance. The facilitators of the Working Group, the Permanent Representatives of Namibia and New Zealand, have made a preliminary determination that in the humanitarian cluster there are:

  • 155 mandates that fully reflect current need and are effectively implemented (green);
  • 26 mandates that would benefit from consolidation or strengthening (amber);
  • 35 mandates on which action is needed to fill a gap or to discontinue (red); and
  • 54 mandates that are already completed (gray).
